Microscopic derivation of the Bekenstein–Hawking entropy formula for non-extremal black holes

چکیده
We derive the Bekenstein–Hawking entropy formula for fourand five-dimensional nonsupersymmetric black holes (which include the Schwarzchild ones) by counting microscopic states. This is achieved by first showing that these black holes are U-dual to the three-dimensional black hole of Banados–Teitelboim–Zanelli and then counting microscopic states of the latter following Carlip’s approach. Black holes higher than fivedimensional are also considered. We discuss the connection of our approach to the Dbrane picture. CERN-TH/97-330 KUL-TF-97/33 November 1997

Microscopic Entropy of N=2 Extremal Black Holes
String theory is used to compute the microscopic entropy for several examples of black holes in compactifications with N = 2 supersymmetry. Agreement with the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy and the moduli-independent N = 2 area formula is found in all cases.
متن کاملOn D-Branes and Black Holes in Four Dimensions
We find extremal four dimensional black holes with finite area constructed entirely from intersecting D-branes. We argue that the microscopic degeneracy of these configurations agrees with the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy formula. The absence of solitonic objects in these configurations may make them useful for dynamical studies of black holes.
متن کاملExtremal Black Hole/CFT Correspondence in (Gauged) Supergravities
We extend the investigation of the recently proposed Kerr/CFT correspondence to large classes of rotating black hole solutions in gauged and ungauged supergravities. The correspondence, proposed originally for four-dimensional Kerr black holes, asserts that the quantum states in the near-horizon region of an extremal rotating black hole are holographically dual to a two-dimensional chiral theor...
متن کاملMicroscopic Origin of the Bekenstein-Hawking Entropy
The Bekenstein-Hawking area-entropy relation SBH = A/4 is derived for a class of five-dimensional extremal black holes in string theory by counting the degeneracy of BPS soliton bound states.
متن کاملEntropy of extremal black holes
After summarizing the development of black hole thermodynamics in the seventies, we describe a recent microscopic model. This model suggests that the Bekenstein-Hawking area formula holds for extremal black holes as well as for ordinary (non-extremal) ones. On the other hand, semiclassical studies have suggested a discontinuity between non-extremal and extremal cases. We indicate how a reconcil...
